Find out why you should carry these 5 Essential Oils with you at all times and definitely need a copy at home as well. Essential Oils are concentrated plant substances, which are obtained from various parts of the plant. This can be the bark, the root, the flowers or even the seeds. Each essential oil has its own wonderful therapeutic effect. For example, some oils have an antiseptic or anti-inflammatory effect, while others can have an antispasmodic, cleansing or expectorant effect. Essential oils can also become our everyday helpers on the psychological side of things. Bergamot or lavender help us to alleviate restlessness and improve the quality of our sleep. Rosemary and peppermint, on the other hand can increase our concentration and clear our head.

How do Essential Oils work their magic?

As soon as we inhale the scent of essential oils or get in touch with our skin, it immediately affects our organism.

Thus, each oil has a unique composition and a special effect on our physical as well as psychological well-being.

The variety of application areas are incredibly diverse and fascinating.

They can be applied both internally and externally.

Here, too, there are different ways of application, depending on which part of the body is affected and which symptom wants to be alleviated.

How the respective oils impact our well-being will be explained a bit later.

Disclaimer:

For the most part, essential oils can be used without danger. Nevertheless, there are exceptional cases that must be observed. This concerns, among others, pregnancy and breastfeeding, infants and children and epileptics. Please always inform yourself about this before taking or using the essential oil.

How do I use Essential Oils?

DIY Cosmetics

Essential oils can be used in a variety of ways. If you are a DIY fan and also want to do something good for your skin, you will love the application areas of essential oils.

We can enrich our creams, ointments, compresses or fatty oils with it to care for our skin.

That way you know exactly which ingredients are applied to your skin and can determine for yourself what to include into your care and what to exclude.

You will also get to know your skin so much better.

Check out in this post, if you would like to know how to apply Essential Oils in your DIY face mask.

Essential Oil Diffuser

Another wonderful use is the essential oil diffuser. One of my absolute favorite means to relax and do something good for myself.

I personally use the “Diffuser-RELAX” by Tiroler Kräuterhof, which has been faithfully by my side for several years.

A diffuser is perfect after a long and tiring day at work to come down and get rid of stress in the best possible way.

I especially like to use lavender oil here.

Close your eyes, take a few deep and long breaths and leave the day behind.

Massage oil blend

Another incredibly soothing application of essential oils is massage oil blending.

Essential oils are perfect for a soothing massage if you mix them with a fatty oil beforehand.

For this, you choose a suitable base oil (1-2 tablespoons of jojoba oil, almond oil or olive oil, etc.) and mix it with a few drops of your essential oil.

How many drops you use for your blend varies – fewer drops (2-3) are recommended if you use it on the face, as the skin is very sensitive here.

If you want to make a nice foot bath, you can take more drops, about 7-8. You will get a feeling pretty soon on how many drops to use.

So don’t worry about it and just try it. You can then use your finished oil blend as a body oil, for example, or apply it to your face at night before bed, or you can add a few drops to water while showering or in the bathtub.

Home spa tip

Drip a few drops of peppermint oil (or eucalyptus, etc.) onto the shower floor while showering – as soon as steam is created in the shower, the wonderfully refreshing aroma of the peppermint oil spreads directly into your airways.

Wellness in the privacy of your home!

Important: never apply an essential oil pure, i.e. without dilution, to your skin. Due to the high concentration, this can end up extremely unpleasant and burn like hell.

Top 5 – Indispensable oils for home

As promised, I will now share with you 5 essential oils, which are in my opinion an absolute MUST for your home pharmacy.

Make sure to have these oils at hand at anytime, as there is almost always a moment when one of the oils can work its wonders.

Quality

When buying the oils, make sure they are of high quality – you can get natural oils, for example, in health food stores or in the organic store around the corner.

Alternatively, have a look at Sunday Naturals, as they have a huge variety of great Essential Oils as well. I love their quality and their products in general, so I highly recommend having a look.

#1 Women’s Best Friend – Basil Oil

The basil oil belongs to the adaptogenic oils, which means that they adapt to the needs of the organism.

For example, if you are stressed, it has a calming effect. On the other hand, it has an invigorating effect if you lack energy.

Adaptogens thus ensure that a certain balance is maintained or brought about in your organism.

Basil oil in particular supports the female hormonal balance and can thus help to alleviate typical PMS symptoms, such as mood swings.

It also has an antispasmodic effect, which is a grateful side effect especially during the period.

Additionally, basil can have supportive antibacterial, sedative, diuretic and expectorant effects.

So it is definitely worthwhile to always have a bottle of basil oil in the cupboard.

#2 Focus – Rosemary Oil

My personal favorite. Rosemary oil belongs to the concentration-enhancing oils.

It calms our mind and it can help relieve migraines and reduce menstrual cramps due to its antispasmodic effect.

In addition, it is a real miracle cure for our scalp. Mix about 20 drops with 40ml of water and put this in your hair as a rinse. Our scalp is thereby thoroughly cleaned of shampoo residues and co.

Another application is the aroma diffuser.

When learning, reading or working, rosemary can support and positively influence our memory.

Focus, concentration and clarity can be the results. Simply add 4-5 drops of the essential oil into the diffuser and enjoy the scent.

#3 Refreshment – Peppermint Oil

A very popular herb in all means is peppermint.

It is popular in a wide variety of painful areas, such as headaches, stomach aches or toothaches.

Due to its cooling and expectorant effect, it may also be used for fever, as well as in the cold winter months to keep the respiratory air clear.

If you suffer from abdominal pain, you could mix a soothing massage oil of 2 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil and about 6 ml of Grape Seed Oil.

Gently rub your belly with this mixture. Make yourself comfortable and enjoy the wonderful healing power of nature.

You can also mix peppermint oil with a fatty oil for other types of pain and apply it to the painful area.

Home spa tip

An invigorating foot bath – to do this, simply add a few drops of peppermint oil to a bowl with warm water and do your feet a favour. Bath salts, alkaline salts or dried herbs can also be added here as desired.

#4 The Classic – Tea Tree Oil

The classic among essential oils and probably already an evergreen in some households – tea tree oil.

It has a decongestant effect and has antiseptic substances, which can help to destroy pathogens.

In addition, it is also perfect for our cosmetics because of the antiseptic effect.

A very excellent oil mixture, which aims at a clear skin free from toxins is composed of 2-3 drops of tea tree oil and wild rose oil.

Massage the mixture into the (facial) skin and let it work is magic.

The wild rose oil is one of my absolute favorite products. It is extracted from the rosehip and contains a variety of helpful ingredients that are especially beneficial to our skin.

Therefore, definitely a must-have in our natural cosmetics cabinet.

#5 Good Night – Lavender Oil

Another classic that should not be missing in our household is lavender oil.

It has a calming effect and can support in states of restlessness and anxious mood.

Especially before going to bed, the lavender oil is particularly suitable, as it is known that it can also provide for improved sleep quality.

Here, for example, you can drip a few drops of the oil onto a tissue and place it next to your pillow.

The scent of the oil will make you feel sleepy and it can make falling asleep easier.
